Turn your Android phone into a wifi hotspot

One good advantage of having an Android phone is the tethering & wireless hot spot feature. For instructions on how to turn your Android phone into a portable WiFi hot spot.
For starters, this feature is only available in Android firmware version 2.2 (Froyo) and higher. (*you can find out what version of Android you have by going to settings, scroll all the way to the bottom to “about phone/device” and look for where it says Android version, as seen in the picture below)
Procedure:
step 1: Access the settings menu by pressing the menu soft key at the bottom of your phone
(the word menu or the rows of four lines)
step 2: Press the settings option that appears on the pop up menu
 (the bottom right corner option)
step 3: Select the first option that is at the top of the settings list named Wireless & networks
step 4: Scroll down to Tethering & portable hotspot
step 5: From here, you will either have to connect your phone to the device you want an internet connection from via your USB cable or setup a Portable Wi-Fi hotspot in the Portable Wi-Fi hotpsot settings option
step 6: If you have your USB cable/ cord handy, you can get an automatic internet connection. If you want to setup a wireless connection see step 7 below.
step 7: Setting up a wireless hotspot connection
  • Select the Tethering & portable hotspot settings menu
  • Press Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings option
  • Press configure Wi-Fi hotspot (as shown in the image below)
  • Name your Network SSID (an SSID is just the name of your broadcast wifi) whatever you want.
  • Based on security measures, you will want to setup a password in order to block others from jumping onto your network.
  • Create a password required connection by selecting the down arrow to the right of the drop box in the above image and changing the security type from Open to WPA2 PSK
  • Next create a password. The password must be at least 8 characters long.
  • Press save when your finished to complete the process and save the changes made.
You now have either a Tethered hotspot connection or a wireless hotspot connection. Be sure to check out DFRAGGD.com once you get on the net, but be careful not to go over the 2GB cap because charges will be incurred on T-Mobile’s network and they will slow down your data speed. Sprint plans on capping hotspot usage at 5GB
